The project As Gary Thompson & Bonnie Sherman references the photographic traditions of portraiture and family snapshots. The photographs are simultaneously portraits of me and portraits of my parents. I don their clothes, perform their gestures, and occupy the spaces in their respective midwestern homes that they most often inhabit. We swapped roles; they stood behind my camera in order to photograph me becoming them.
